Mountaineering

January 5 no big deal
I went on a 3 day hike up the peak called my French In mount aspiring national park.
You start of walking threw a Valley for a few yours where you have to cross fiords and the river. Sometimes you just had to go from rock to rock over fiords. Not always the easiest thing to do with a 30 lb pack and someone telling you to jump and in your head your thinking if I don't make it I will fall backwards into the freezing water, but all the more fun. After the valley you basically climb a tree for an hour. You go from root to root to rock to tree. Then once out of forest you feel the brisk cold wind and your sweating tons but must put on a layer due to wind. Finally reaching the hut for sunset you relax eat and go to sleep to wake for sunrise. Rising for sunrise to see the sunrise and to hike on harder snow before the sun beams on it and makes it harder for you to reach to top. Crossing one crevasse not stopping to look how deep for fear I might fall in and climbing climbing for only 20 seconds. Where you go ice axe foot foot ice axe then crawl over the ridge to see the boner glacier now this glacier is really called boner glacier ha you are in nz they have great names for things. The remarkable mountain range is clearly called that bc they are remarkable now this glacier is probably named for a reason as well. ; ) not only do you see the glacier you also look over a lot of peaks and look dead into mount aspiring the tallest peak in that region. On the ridge I had the pleasure of opening up a wonderful birthday card. After that we carried on to the top of mt French just 30 min farther. Making it to the top was again something I can't explain. It was more then amazing but at same time the feeling of being so small but accomplishing something so big but yet in the world still small. Being I am all ready little short with my "huge vocabulary" explaining this is just something I don't know how to do. I made a snowman at the top before tying in to go down. After the crevasse we untied and slid on are butts down. ... This was to fun I was giggling and acting my age : ) half way down we chilled and relaxed on a rock before heading back to the hut where we relaxed sun bathed ate and then I someone stayed up to see the stars. the way down is always a bit hard on the knees I was happy to see the car but sad to leave the national park. I will never forget my 23 birthday.

New Years I worked as security. It was funny being on the other side of things. I few times I thought wow I hope I don't act like that : ) 2 people were arrested from my gate area. I watched one gal fall right on her face it was not something I needed to see

Between Christmas and New Years I had 2 amazing French couch surfers stay with me. They were in there late 30s and we had a blast together we went to Milford sound where Jurassic park is filmed. we also did 1/3 of the routeborn track. One of the 5 great hikes of nz I have now done parts of 3 and one full one. We also played advanced uno. Love my cards : ) advanced UNO haha yes I no I am suppose to tell you about nz but let me tell you about advanced UNO ok ... Ha so there is interception rule where you can at anytime place the same card down on top of card even when its not your turn also if the color adds to 10 so you can throw down a blue 6 and blue 4 at same time or if someone throws down a blue 6 and you have the blue 4 you can place when ever. It was good fun. They cooked for me there traditional French quiche from there region.

Christmas was Great ate to much food of course won some crackers. ( English tradition)

I have most of these photos on Facebook

Oh ya--living on the edge--literally--on the edge of a snow capped mountain! Beautiful pics, I'm sure it's more amazing in person. Keep these updates coming!
